I have recently gotten really into
cyclying after getting fed up with hurting from running.
All that high impact just makes me ache and gett pissed.
Bikign I just seem to get sore. So this section is
dedicated to some of the cool cycling information I have
found. Plus some projects of mine.
Cross Conversion
1:First attempt at converting an old
steel fram road bike to a cyclocross bike.
After
looking over a lot of forums on
bikeforums.net, which is a great site for finding
bike info. I decided that a conversion could be def be
done, be fun, and a way of saying 'screw paying 2k for a
bike I can build and have fun with.' With that in mind
realize that while yes this bike works, its not the
'optimal' for racing, but compared to what they use to
race is pretty darn good.
The
Green Machine: THIS PROJECT IS NOT FINISHED! My first attempt at building a
recumbent trike... wow, I need to get better! But a
great build that taught me a lot. First things first.
Most of the credit (nearly all) should go to
Atomiczombie.com where I bought my (very detailed)
plans from. Highly recommend you check them out as they
have many different types of bike plans. Second, thank
you Mike for the patient assistance and much grinding
and welding. The main goal of this build was to learn,
and use as many resources from scrapped bikes, rather
then new parts.Read More.
Cycling Links: Just some cool links
I've found- - Wounded Warrior
Project-
Soldeir Ride : The Wounded Warrior Projects cycling
event for both wounded and supporters alike. They do a
lot for wounded soldiers, and this is one of their big
rehab events they do. Lots of companies just give these
guys bikes, pretty cool stuff. Check it if you want o go
ride, they have lots of locations they are doing rides
at next year.
-
FixiePixie.com : Cool site all about fixies. Not a
whole lot of how to, but some. Mainly just a cool site
to check out, lots of pics!
-
Bikeframe sizing info : Read up here for good
information on bike frame sizing from seat tube length,
to wheel and handle bars. Has it for multiple frame
types. From
ebicycles.com.
Resources: How To's, Building, and
everything else-
-Atomiczombie.com
: A great place for looking at other peoples bikes.
Everything from goofy looking bikes to multiple types of
recumbents, and recumbent trikes. He also has some great
articles that are very in-depth on individual
modifications and tips that are useful for building a
recumbent. From how to tear apart a used frame, to how
to make an under-seat steering system. And of course
they have lots of great build manuals that are highly
detail. The Green Machine
was built off of one that was 169 pages!
-
Bikeforums.net : Forums on everything! And with lots
of people! Who know what they are talking about!
Amazing!
-
Fleettrikes.com : This guy is great. Lots of
different designs, nearly all trikes, very detailed on
his stuff, with lots of pics. I would easily say that
besides buying a design from Atomic Zombie this guy is
the second best thing to look at for a recumbent trike.
-
Recumbents.com : Nearly everything you want ot know
about recumbents. Some really good resources, how to's,
and forums.
-
Sheldonbrown.com : GREAT SITE! You can save an easy
$15 on some bike book by reading this website. Maybe not
as detailed about everything in the universe, but I can
honestly say I learned things here that I did not in the
book. Very in-depth, nice pictures, TONS of reading. You
can learn nearly everything you want ot know about how a
bike works, different types of bikes, why their designed
the way they are, and all the different styles of every
part, and whey they are like that.

Google Sketch Up: An easy CAD program to learn. Not
sure how it compares to others, but it was not hard for
me. Plus not sure how powerful it is, but again if your
just looking to explore some design stuff real quick I
woudl highly reccomend this program. Plus it already has
some bike and recumbent designs you can download to play
with.
